Investigation sparks after Pitt County home shop catches fire twice in two days

A shop fire is now under investigation after a local fire department chief says crews from multiple agencies were called to put out two separate fires at the same address. The Clarks Neck Fire Department Chief Bryan Dixon says a garage shop at 5883 Clarks Neck Road has caught fire twice within the last two days. The first time crews were called to the property was early Monday morning at 12:57 a.m. After an investigation, the fire chief says the cause was deemed electrical, and power was cut from the building. This morning, at 1:40 a.m., multiple fire stations responded to the shop on fire again. Dixon says crews had put out the fire within 30 minutes and put out hot spots until 4:30 a.m.

Follow Up: Bald Head Island fire chief shares details on devastating house fire

Bald Head Island is a paradise for many, but after a fire broke out last Friday, one family’s dream home is now looking like a nightmare. It’s a site you don’t often see on the picturesque island. “It does not happen very often on Bald Head,” Fire Chief Joshua Gibson said. The home was under renovations at the time, which lead Gibson to believe the fire was started by chemicals in the construction equipment. However, officials have not officially identified the cause yet. With only five Bald Head Island firefighters on the island on Friday, Gibson said it was all hands on deck. Backup from Oak Island and Southport got to the island in under five minutes via a Coast Guard Vessel. The fire lead to Duke Energy cutting off power to hundreds of homes. The purpose was to make sure no firefighter was electrocuted while battling flames.

Firefighters say Martin County home fire ruled accidental

The Jamesville Community Volunteer Fire Department was called to a home fire in the 1100 block of Grey Farm Road around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. When firefighters arrived, officials say smoke was coming from the second story of the home. The fire department says the fire was quickly put out as crews attacked flames on the outside and stairs leading to the house. Officials say after an investigation, the home fire was ruled accidental and was caused by a short circuit from an electrical outlet with a space heater plugged in. The fire department says one was injured.
